September 2, 2026 — draft for Medium
TikTok is a writing job wearing a video costume. Every story you post needs a hook, a beat structure, a payoff — and most creators lose the idea before they ever get it into a script. I started keeping a "story bank" this year, and the tool that actually made it stick wasn't a scriptwriting app. It was a dictation app.
My best ideas arrive when I'm not at my desk: walking the dog, washing up, stuck in traffic. I used to lose 80% of them. Now I do this:
Tap the mic, talk for ninety seconds — "the mattress king who built a $5 billion empire by saying yes when banks said no, and the lesson for anyone with bad credit is…"
Wispr Flow transcribes it into clean text on the spot. No formatting, no typing, no "let me write that down later" (which is where ideas go to die). The rough story lands in my notes as a paragraph I can actually read.
The magic is that talking a story out loud does half the scriptwriting for you. Your spoken version naturally has a hook ("this man was laughed out of 47 banks"), a middle, and a punchline. When I sit down to write the actual script, I'm not starting from a blank page — I'm polishing a draft that already has my voice in it.
I dictate a second pass with structure in mind: "hook line first, then the twist at sentence two, then the number that surprises people…" Flow keeps up with the editing the same way it keeps up with the rambling. One walk, one tap, one draft — three stories banked before I'm back at the front door.
Because the bottleneck was never writing ability. It was starting. Dictation removes the empty-document dread completely — you're just talking to yourself about something you find interesting. And consistency compounds: a story bank of fifty half-scripts means you never stare at a blank upload box at 9pm again.
If you make content — TikToks, YouTube, even LinkedIn posts — and you keep losing ideas to the gap between your head and your keyboard, this is the unlock. Wispr Flow runs on Mac and Windows, and it's the rare tool that pays for itself in the first week of use.

Talk first. Script second. Post consistently. That's the whole strategy.
