I Cleared My Life Admin Backlog in One Evening

25 September 2026 • Productivity

I had one of those lists. You know the one. The landlord message I kept rewriting, the dentist I needed to rebook, the council tax question, the parcel return, the car MOT reminder. None of it hard. All of it sitting there for three weeks because I couldn't face typing it all out after work.

Last Thursday I decided to just kill it in one go. I put the kettle on, opened my notes app, and talked through the whole list with Wispr Flow running.

"Okay, first — landlord. Hi, just flagging the bathroom tap is still dripping, it's getting worse, can we get someone round next week? I'm in most evenings after six. Thanks."

Done. Thirty seconds. Normally I'd spend ten minutes agonising over whether "flagging" sounds rude.

Next: "Dentist — need to rebook the check-up I missed in August, mornings preferred, any day except Wednesday." Each little job became one short voice note, and Wispr Flow turned the ramble into clean text I could copy straight into an email, a contact form, or WhatsApp.

The council tax one was the best example. I'd been putting it off because I needed to explain the situation: moved in March, bill still shows the old tenant's name, here's my reference number. Saying it out loud took forty seconds. Typing it would have taken fifteen minutes of opening tabs, losing the reference, getting distracted, and giving up.

I worked through seven jobs in about 25 minutes. Sent four messages the same night, booked two appointments the next morning, and the MOT reminder went in my calendar with the actual date instead of a vague "sort car soon" note.

Here's what I learned: life admin isn't hard, it's just friction. Every little task needs three decent sentences, and typing three decent sentences when you're tired feels like homework. Saying them feels like nothing.

If your backlog list is growing, try this: read the first job out loud, dictate the message, send it, move on. Don't edit twice.
