I Stopped Forgetting What My Doctor Said

I have white-coat amnesia.

I walk into an appointment with three things I want to ask, get asked "so what brings you in today?", and instantly forget two of them. Then I walk out, sit in my car, and forget half of what the doctor just told me. It's an expensive way to learn nothing.

Last month I tried something different. In the parking lot before I went in, I tapped Wispr Flow and just talked for 60 seconds.

"Been waking up with a stiff neck for two weeks, mostly right side, worse after laptop days. Sleep's been short, around six hours. Also want to ask if I should keep taking vitamin D, and get that mole on my shoulder checked."

No bullet points, no neat form. Just me rambling into my phone like a voice note to myself. Wispr Flow turned it into a clean list I could actually read in the waiting room.

That alone changed the appointment. I didn't umm my way through symptoms or forget the second question. I just read my own words back.

The bigger win came after.

Instead of driving off and trying to remember dosage instructions later, I sat in the car for another minute and dictated what she'd said while it was fresh.

"She said neck is posture plus stress, do chin tucks twice a day, heat 15 minutes at night. Vitamin D keep going through winter, recheck in three months. Mole looks benign but photo it monthly to track. Follow up if numbness in fingers."

Ninety seconds of talking saved me from the usual cycle: Googling what I half-remembered, calling the office back, stressing I missed something important.

Here's why voice is perfect for this: doctor visits are stressful and rushed. You're not going to type neat notes with a nurse calling your name. Talking is low-friction enough to actually do it, in the moment, when accuracy matters most.

I now have a running log of every visit in plain English. Next appointment, I can just say "here's what happened last time" and be precise about dates, symptoms, and what changed.

If you blank out at the doctor's office like I do, try this: talk for a minute before, talk for a minute after.
