I Stopped Dreading Client Updates (Thanks to Voice Dictation)

30 September 2026 • Productivity

Freelancers know the feeling. You finish a solid day of actual work, then stare at the screen thinking: now I have to write the update email.

Three clients. Three status updates. Each one takes 20 minutes of careful wording because you want to sound professional, thorough, and worth every penny.

That was 60 minutes of unpaid admin. Every. Single. Day.

The shift

I started dictating my client updates with Wispr Flow instead of typing them.

Here's my new workflow: I wrap up a task, hit the dictation hotkey, and just talk — the way I'd explain it if the client were sitting next to me. "Hey Sarah, finished the homepage mockups, two rounds of tweaks on the pricing page, tomorrow I'm tackling the checkout flow…"

Wispr Flow turns that ramble into clean, punctuated text. I paste it into the email, tidy the formatting, hit send. Done in three minutes instead of twenty.

Why it works better than typing

Typed updates feel stiff. You overthink every sentence. You delete and rewrite the same paragraph three times.

Spoken updates sound like you — warm, confident, human. Clients notice. I've had two clients specifically say my updates "feel more personal lately." They have no idea I'm spending a fraction of the time.

And the numbers: three updates a day, saving ~15 minutes each, five days a week. That's over 5 hours a month back. For billable work. Or, you know, actually logging off on time.

Try it

If you freelance, consult, or manage any client relationships — stop typing your updates. Talk them.

Try Wispr Flow free here — it takes two minutes to set up, and your first dictated update will convince you.

Your clients will think you hired an assistant. You kind of did. 🎙️
